OUR NEWLY RECRUITED PRACTICE NURSE IS UNDERGOING TRAINING THEREFORE YOU MAY BE ADDED TO A SHORT WAITING LIST UNTIL A LOCUM NURSE IS AVAILABLE.  Once our nurse is up and running we aim to appoint patients who need review of any chronic diseases.

Our practice nurse provides a wide range of services including cholesterol and blood pressure checks, advice about weight reduction, smoking and well person checks. We also offer the following:

Asthma Clinic

Regular review of all patients in the practice with asthma, including inhaler technique.

Diabetic Clinic

All diabetic patients are offered a full assessment at our diabetic clinic. This clinic is operated by our practice nurse with input from a GP if required. Annual retinopathy screening (eye checks) and foot care is available locally.

Heart Disease and Stroke Clinic

Regular review of patients who have angina, previous heart trouble or stroke. Assessment of risk factors, blood pressure, cholesterol and lifestyle management.

Hypertension Clinic

We recommend a blood pressure check every six months for patients on treatment.

COPD Clinic

Annual lung tests and review of patients with chronic bronchitis or emphysema (now known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - COPD)

Cervical Smear Clinic

Women between the ages of 25 and 50 will be offered a routine smear test every three years; women between the ages of 50 and 65 will be offered a routine smear test every 5 years. Appointments can be made with our practice nurse or the GP of your choice. Appointments and results are sent by the Scottish Cervical Cytology Recall System.

Every three years, all women between 50 and 70 years of age are invited to the Mobile Breast Screening Unit in Duns.

Wart Treatment

Our nurse can treat most warts and verruccas on the premises using a portable freezing system.

Smoking Cessation

In conjunction with NHS Borders, we offer a comprehensive programme for patients wishing to stop smoking. This includes nicotine replacement therapy and motivational support in an individual or group setting.


TREATMENT ROOM

The treatment room nurse is available each weekday from 8.30 am to 4.45 pm for dressings, blood tests, ear syringing and injections. Please phone (01361) 883373 for an appointment.
